- Base Salary $113,184 – $134,403 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The Primary Science and Technology Curriculum lecturer appointment will contribute to scholarly teaching in the primary science and technology (K-6) Key Learning area in initial teacher education programs offered by the Sydney School of Education and Social Work. The appointee should have classroom teaching experience in primary school settings, knowledge of current relevant school curriculum as well as demonstrate evidence of research informed teaching in the science and technology KLA.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- coordinate primary science and technology education curriculum units as well as developing and promoting innovative teaching and assessment methods for both undergraduate and Master of Teaching students
- lecture in initial teacher education curriculum of NESA Early stage 1 to Stage 3 Science and Technology K-6 syllabus
- manage sessional staff including creating budgets for science and technology units, preparing contracts, and induction of new staff
- liaise with Curriculum Component Coordinators for the primary Bachelor of Education and Master of Teaching degrees and working with student life advisors to manage students at-risk
- undertake educational research including publication in high quality peer reviewed journals and collaborating in the submission of applications for research grants and fellowships
- supervise higher degree research students
- actively participate in unit and curriculum review and design, continuously improving quality of learning experiences for students
- effectively engage with schools and/or professional associations at local, state, and national levels.
About you
- a PhD in an academic field relevant to science education or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to their discipline
- a specialisation in one of the branches of Science Education: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Earth and Space and/or Technologies Education (Design and digital)
- deep and broad experience in learning and teaching in science and technologies (design and/or digital), as evidenced by participation in teaching within an established education program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings including primary school and higher education
- demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating learning and teaching initiatives related to primary science and technology K-6
- a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality, independent and collaborative publications in science education and/or a related discipline
- developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the science education discipline and higher education sector.
